Llachon is a small village located in the peninsula of Capachica 46 miles away from the city of Puno (1 hour and 20 minutes drive). This community has 1,300 inhabitants spread out the peninsula and they belong to the ethnic group of Quechuas.

The village of Llachon is only one-hour boat ride from Puno and the return by bus is very scenic.Since the community members of Llachon have commercial ties with the populations of Amantani and Taquile islands, they have realized that tourism could be an important activity to promote much needed development in their community. The major economic activities on this community are farming, livestock and fishing.

A few people have been trying to improve their motorboats so that they could transport tourists to the islands of Amantani and Taquile. Since year 2000, this community has intensively been working on improving their houses, building community restaurants and other infrastructure adequate for tourism activities. The visits include walks throughout the village, visits to local family houses, observation of farming and weaving activities, and tasting local food.

Mr. Valentin Quispe -a strong minded and visionary man from this small community has taken the lead promoting his community as another attractive destination in the lake Titicaca area. When members of his community state that they are poor, Valentin replies that they cannot be poor with such spectacular natural scenery with the lake, the mountains, and their traditions.

All Ways Travel is joining the community in its efforts to promote ecotourism and promote cross-cultural experiences with this native community. As we did for Anapia, we are supporting the organization of the community to provide different tourism services such as home stays, food, and boat rentals. This visit is appropriate for those travelers who are running short of time but they still want to have a taste of a cross-cultural experience with a Quechua community.

And for active travelers: On the highest navigable lake, half day, one-day and longer expeditions are available along the shoreline of the northeastern lakeshore including short excursions to the islands of Taquile and Amantani. Boat - supported and accompanied by guides, the longer expeditions also include home-stays and all meals. Try this low-impact activity, no prior experience required! All trips depart from Llachon but on request in some cases can depart from Taquile or Amantani Islands on special itineraries.

Equipment and Services Included:

Titikayak (local company running the Kayak business) provides Sea-kayaks, paddles, life jackets and safety equipment, a local guide, boat support, all meals from lunch on day one to lunch on day three, including the overnights in local houses.

Not included:Transportation to/from Llachon, gloves, sunscreen, hats, alcoholic beverages, personal clothing, extras, and insurance, camera gear, toiletries.

Note: No prior experience required. With a group of six or more passengers we provide a local boat, which escorts the group on the excursion day.

Tours description:

Sea-kayaking: HALF DAY TRIP: Leaving from Llachon a half - day option is available which takes you paddling along the shoreline to reach the point of the Capachica Peninsula, with underwater views of the shore-line -its rocks, algae and miniature marine life as well as views of local households and small docks. On return we will have a typical lunch waiting for us before continuing your program.

Sea-kayaking: ONE DAY TRIP: Llachon can be reached by boat from Puno or by two-hour road-trip from Puno. Leaving any day from the local dock located on the shores of Lake Titicaca in the community of Llachon, we set out with a guide to the Island of your choice Amantani or Taquile. Once in the water you will marvel at the clarity of the lake, with views of the crystal blue-green waters as we paddle along the shore and out to the island of Taquile or Amantani - a unique sensation. We arrive at either island; you have a chance to walk around the village and the terraced landscape. A typical lunch on the shores of the lake before we paddle back to shore gives you plenty of photo opportunities.

Sea Kayaking: A SHORT ESCAPE (2D/1N):

Day 1 LLACHON / TAQUILE

Once we reach the embarkation point in Llachon, we have a briefing and receive the appropriate safety equipment. The group embarks on the three to four hour sea-kayak adventure. Padding first along the coast of the peninsula we leave the point after an hour and cross the lake towards the island of Taquile. On arrival we disembark, store our kayaks on shore and spend the rest of the day after lunch exploring the island, overnight at a rural home overlooking the lake with beautiful views of the Cordillera Real. (There is also an option to return to Llachon and spend the night there)

Day 2 TAQUILE/ LLACHON

We proceed to explore the coastline of the island by kayak and then head across the open water again returning to our starting point. Hopefully with the prevailing wind behind us we will complete this leg of the journey faster. On arrival, lunch at Llachon before returning to the mainland from the peninsula (transportation not included)

Sea-Kayaking: THE MAGIC TRIANGLE (3D/2N)

Day 1 LLACHON / AMANTANI

Llachon is always the embarkation point. After a briefing, we receive the appropriate safety equipment and embark on our three to four hour sea-kayaking adventure. We head towards Amantani Island, across open water until reaching the lake-shore at Amantani. Overnight at the local farmer's homes.

Day 2 AMANTANI/ TAQUILE

Today we cross over to Taquile Island, disembarking on its northern harbor and hiking along the island to the main square. Visit the village and in the afternoon settle into our rural lodge for dinner and overnight. Beautiful views of the surrounding lake-shore including the Cordillera Real on the Bolivian side of the lake

Day 3 TAQUILE/ LLACHON

We proceed to explore the coastline of the island and then head across the open water again returning to our starting point at Llachon. Hopefully with the prevailing wind behind us we will complete this leg of the journey faster. On arrival, lunch at Llachon before returning to the mainland from the peninsula (transportation not included)
